The Issue.

The Juristat Bulletin released by the Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics states that between 2009 and 2016, 1,220 incidents of the most serious human trafficking violations were reported by police (based on aggregate data, and counts are based on the most serious violation in the incident) (Ibrahim, 2018: 04). Police data from 2009 - 2016 stated that out of the 865 victims of trafficking reported within these years, 95% were women, with 72% of victims being under the age of 25. Females under the age of 25 years old made up 70% of all (police-reported) victims between these years, with 26% being less than 18 years old, and 44% were being between 18 and 24 years (ibid). In Toronto, between 2014 and 2018, where Global Family operates, there has been a total of 1,092 identified cases of trafficking, with a total of 250 victims and 295 arrests.
